Use Monkey Pods or Other Botanicals as Feeding Dishes

When it comes to creating a natural and realistic environment in your vivarium, incorporating botanical elements can enhance the overall aesthetic. One botanical that I particularly enjoy using in my setups is the monkey pod.

Monkey pods, with their unique shape, add a touch of authenticity to the vivarium. They provide a natural feeding solution that blends seamlessly with the surroundings, eliminating the need for conventional feeding dishes that can be visually distracting.

When it’s time to feed your vivarium inhabitants, such as crickets, fruit flies, or other feeder insects coated in vitamins, I like to pour them into a monkey pod nestled into the floor of the enclosure. This practice serves multiple purposes.

Firstly, using a monkey pod as a feeding dish helps contain all the leftover vitamin powder in one designated area. This makes it easier for you to remove and clean the monkey pod periodically, maintaining a nice and clean looking environment.

Additionally, by using a feeding dish, you minimize the amount of excess vitamin dust settling on the moss and other plants within the vivarium.

Too much vitamin accumulation can be detrimental to the health of the plants. By keeping the majority of the vitamin dust contained within the monkey pod, you can mitigate the negative impact on the surrounding vegetation.

So, if you’re looking for a visually appealing and functional feeding solution, consider using a monkey pod in your vivarium. It’s a small detail that can make a significant difference.
